There’s a new trend in the credit card processing industry towards mobile payments.

What this means is that you’ll be able to pay for purchases with your phone instead of a physical credit card.

Why does this matter?

Have you ever lost your wallet? It’s a disconcerting feeling. You can’t buy anything without it.

What if you could pay for things with just your phone? The technology, like Google Wallet, works like this.

mobile walletWhen you need to pay for a purchase, just tap your phone on the terminal. You can choose any card in the mobile payment app to use.

What about security? What if you lost your phone?

Don’t worry. They have it covered. Before you use the mobile payment app, you have to enter a 4 digit pin.

Your credit cards are encrypted and stored online. You can even remotely disable the app if you lose your wallet.

It’s actually more secure than swiping your credit card, if you can believe it. There is no credit card number to steal or skim.

Besides being convenient to use, the new mobile payment apps will incorporate coupons and loyalty programs. Imagine, not having to clip coupons and carry them with you again!

And if you accept credit card payments under $2,002 a week, check out Square. It’s a popular option because there are no monthly fees and you can accept credit cards with your phone. They’ll mail a mini card reader, which attaches to your phone, for free!
